Joker is directed by Todd Phillips and stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and Frances Conroy. The plot of the movie is in Gotham City, mentally-troubled comedian Arthur Fleck is disregarded and mistreated by society. He then embarks on a downward spiral of revolution and bloody crime. This path brings him face-to-face with his alter-ego "The Joker". This is an enjoyable movie, but it is being very overhyped. Joaquin Phoenix is incredible as this character. The character of Arthur Fleck is someone who doesn't feel like he is being fed any happiness by the world. In every scene where you're spending time with this character, you see the pain behind his eyes how he is trying so hard to be happy to try and find any sort of joy in the world around him. After a while, he just gives up trying because he is treated like shit and the disturbing part is you kind of understand why he does what he does towards the second half of the film. This is a gorgeous looking movie with beautiful striking cinematography and a really great color palette that perfectly suits this character and this story. The movie has some very disturbing elements with I thought were very effective. The main problem with this movie is the pacing the movie moves so slow that there were times when I wanted to fall asleep. The supporting cast ranges from great to forgettable. Frances Conroy plays Arthur's Mother and the two have great chemistry together. Robert De Niro does a decent job as a talk show host. Zazie Beetz plays Sophie Arthur's neighbor and her character is very dull there isn't much to her. The final act of this movie excellent, but it felt like it took forever to get to it. 3 out of 5 stars for Joker. I hope you enjoyed my review.
