Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween is directed by Ari Sandel and stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, Madison Iseman, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Caleel Harris, Chris Parnell, and Ken Jeong. The plot of the movie is two young friends find a magic book that brings a ventriloquist's dummy to life. I enjoyed the first movie, so I was excited to see what they would do with the sequel. I ended up being extremely disappointed. This film has a smaller budget than the first movie had and you can easily tell that a lot of the special effects look fake. A lot of the original cast couldn't return due to other projects. It seemed like SONY decided to just make a completely different movie and rush it into theaters. A lot of the Goosebumps books had a different set of characters, but the difference in this movie is that the new characters are not interesting. The young actors in the film did a decent job. The plot, once it is revealed what Slappy wants to do, is laughably stupid. While the first film felt fast-paced this one even though it's only 90 minutes felt incredibly slow. It's always annoying when studios think that they do not need to put effort into making kids films because they just think that kids will enjoy anything that is targeted at them. The humor in the film is horrendous for example there is a scene early on with the mother and kids at a grocery store and the cashier is clearly trying to flirt with the mother and every time they made a joke it was so embarrassing. Some stuff takes place in the final act which helps the film not be completely awful. I just wish there was more of that in the rest of the film and that there was more effort put into this. 2 out of 5 stars for Goosebumps 2: Hunted Halloween. I hope you enjoyed my review.
