Eighth Grade is directed by Bo Burnham and stars Elsie Fisher, Josh Hamilton, Emily Robinson, Jake Ryan, and Fred Hechinger. The plot of the movie is an introverted teenage girl tries to survive the last week of eighth-grade year before leaving to start high school.    I was excited to finally get a chance to see this since this is one of the best-reviewed movies of the year. Similar to last year's Lady Bird I have no idea why this movie has nothing special about it and it is painful to sit through.  The one positive thing about the film is Elsie Fisher who plays the main character, Kayla. She did a fantastic job playing this shy and awkward character.  Everything else about this movie is awful.  The writing is so bad I almost couldn't finish the film if you hate millennial slang as much as I do then don't even bother watching this. Also, the characters almost always have their phones in their hands which I also hate.   There is a scene early in the movie where the main character is on her phone and her dad is trying to talk to her and every time he does she acts like a complete bitch.  Any attempts at humor are embarrassing.  1 out of 5 stars for Eighth Grade. I hope you enjoyed my review.
