THE DARKEST MINDS MOVIE REVIEW
The Darkest Minds is directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson and stars Amandla Stenberg, Mandy Moore, and Gwendoline Christie. The plot of the movie is imprisoned by an adult world that now fears everyone under 18, a group of teens form a resistance group to fight back and reclaim control of their future. I am not the target demographic that this movie is aimed at and a younger audience would enjoy it a lot more and be more forgiving of its flaws. Just because I am not the target demographic that doesn't mean I am not open to any kind of story if it is told in a great way. Unfortunately, The Darkest Minds like a lot of these young Adult novel adaptations is a waste of time. When it comes to the plot it's very mediocre. One of the main problems with movies like this is that they are extremely similar they all come down to a group of evil adults in the form of a corporation or the government itself and young children or teens who have to fight for survival. I have never read any of the books in this series and I fell that would have helped me to understand more of what was going on, but the film needs to be able to stand on its own and in my opinion, it did not do that. The young actors are decent they do the best they can with what they are given. The movie is a little under 2 hours, but it moves so slow that it seemed a lot longer than it actually was. The actors do a pretty good job, but overall The Darkest Minds is an absolutely generic young adult film. 1 out of 5 stars for The Darkest Minds. I hope you enjoyed my review.
