THE MUMMY MOVIE REVIEW
The Mummy is directed by Alex Kurtzman and stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, and Russell Crowe. The plot of the movie is an ancient princess is awakened from her crypt beneath the desert, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia, and terrors that defy human comprehension. With most Tom Cruise movies I see the trailer and get really excited for the movie than I see it and it turns out to be pretty bad. With this movie, I fell into that same trap. With this movie Universal hopes to launch their own cinematic universe of monsters after this they may want to reconsider that. Not everything about this film is bad though I did enjoy Tom Cruise's performance. It's easy to tell that he is having a lot of fun with this. Also, the big final action sequence was entertaining. Those are the only two good things about the movie there are a lot of problems and the first and biggest is that this film was written by 5 or 6 people and it shows. This movie is all over the place. Most of the characters in this movie are boring with like I mentioned before the exception of Tom Cruise. Russell Crowe is in this movie and I won't spoil who he plays I thought he did fine for the limited amount of screen-time he had. He runs a secret organization kind of like S. H. I. E. L. D in the Marvel cinematic universe. Jake Johnson is the comedic sidekick and every time he tries to be funny it is very lame. Annabelle Wallis was completely useless. She needs to be saved all the time. Rarely does she solve anything. She just brings Tom Cruise to where he needs to go. It's horrible timing to be coming out the week after Wonder Woman a movie that had a strong female lead. There really isn't much to like in this aside from one great action scene and Tom Cruise. Like I mentioned at the start Universal wants to have their own cinematic universe and I was really looking forward to it after this I doubt they make anymore. 1 out of 5 stars for The Mummy. I hope you enjoyed my review.
