MEGAN LEAVEY MOVIE REVIEW
Megan Leavey is directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite and stars Kate Mara, Tom Felton, and Edie Falco. It is based on the life of a young Marine Corporal whose unique discipline and bond with her military combat dog saved many lives during their deployment in Iraq. I enjoyed this movie a lot. The performances, especially by Kate Mara and the dog who plays Rex, were so good that it really got me invested in their story. It's also not too sappy which is the biggest complaint I hear about movies like this. They did an excellent job of maintaining a sense of realism. You get to see Megan as she's training to become a Marine, you get to see her as she's training with Rex and you see a bond develop between them. It's not just about the dog being cute and hoping it doesn't get hurt. Kate Mara gives one of the best performances I have seen from her. Unlike a lot of movies, this did a great job of showing the true bond that can grow between a human and an animal. The battle sequences were also very intense. It didn't feel like it was trying to be to tear-jerky even though I will admit I did tear up. I only have two issues with this film the first is there's a romance that develops in the film that I didn't think went anywhere that probably was real so I can understand including it, but every time the movie went back to it I felt it slowed the movie down. My other problem was the movie ends rather abruptly it just felt like there was more to the story and the filmmakers just decided they were done. 4 out of 5 stars for Megan Leavey. I hope you enjoyed my review.
