THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS MOVIE REVIEW

The House with a Clock in Its Walls is directed by Eli Roth and stars Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, Owen Vaccaro, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Sunny Sujiic and Kyle MacLachlan. The plot of the movie is a young orphan named Lewis Barnavelt aids his magical uncle in locating a clock with the power to bring about the end of the world.    The trailers for this movie I thought didn't look very good. I thought it was going to be a movie that took itself way too seriously and there are parts of the movie where it does that, but overall I thought this was a fun movie.  The cast, for the most part, is great Jack Black is always so energetic and you can tell he is having a lot of fun playing this character. It's great to see Cate Blanchett in a role we normally don't see her in and she works well with Jack Black.  Kyle MacLachlan plays the villain of the film and I felt he was the one member of the cast that was taking this movie way too seriously and it took me out of the movie a bit. Owen Vaccaro plays the young boy Lewis and he definitely over acts a little too much and there is a scene where he has to cry and that becomes laughably bad, but for the most part, he did an okay job.    The special effects in this film are really impressive. The production design and the set design are wonderful. This is a movie I think families are really going to enjoy it has enough stuff for both kids and adults. A lot of the humor I felt worked, but then you have this dumb poop joke that the movie does three times and it wasn't funny the first time.  The story is engaging., I appreciate that they try and flesh out Jack Black and Cate Blanchett's characters I think they are given really interesting backstories to get you invested in those two characters.    3 out of 5 stars for The House With a Clock in Its Walls. I hope you enjoyed my review and I hope it helped you decide whether to see the movie or not.
