BOOK CLUB MOVIE REVIEW

Book Club is directed by Bill Holderman and stars Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, Mary Steenburgen, Craig T. Nelson, Andy Garcia and Don Johnson. The plot of the movie is four lifelong friends have their lives forever changed after reading 50 Shades of Grey in their monthly book club.   If you remember my review of Forever My Girl I said that I was sure that it would end up being my least favorite movie of the year.  Well, that is no longer the case this movie is trash.   50 Shades of Grey's moment has passed the film trilogy finished recently. So right from the start, this movie feels at least two years out of date in that regard. Plus everyone knows about these books so it's not remotely convincing that any of these people wouldn't know what it's about.  This movie is filled with sex jokes each more cringy than the last. I lost track of how many times I rolled my eyes at the screen.  Even though the movie is called Book Club there are only three scenes where they all get together to discuss it at the beginning of each act.   For the most part, the characters are all going on individual storylines. Which is a waste of this very talented cast.  Each of the characters stories are tired old rehashes of thing we've seen in numerous films.  Diane Keaton plays a widower and her daughters want her to move in with them and live in their basement which they have made very friendly for her age. These daughter characters are very protective of their mother. They overreact to everything to the point where their mom goes somewhere and doesn't call them back and they call the police.   The male actors in this are clearly not interested in this material and the characters they play are not interesting.   The pacing of this movie is horrible and has no idea when to end. I counted three or four different moments when this movie could have ended and I was disappointed every time it didn't.    0 out of 5 stars for Book Club. I hope you enjoyed my review and I hope you never see this trash.
