SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING MOVIE REVIEW

Spider-Man: Homecoming is directed by John Watts and stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr. The plot of the movie is Peter Parker, with the help of his mentor Tony Stark, tries to balance his life as an ordinary high school student while fighting crime as Spider-Man as a new threat the Vulture, emerges.    I have loved Spider-Man my whole life. I really liked the original three Spider-man movies with Toby Maguire, but I thought The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2 with Andrew Garfield were very disappointing. This is yet another reboot of Spider-Man and the first time the character is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since I haven't liked a lot of Marvel movies I was worried that I would be disappointed by this. In my opinion, this is the best Spider-Man movie that we have ever gotten.  This is an adaptation that understands the character but also understands that it needs to be different and not a rehash of what we have already seen like the first Amazing Spider-Man.    The filmmakers have said that they wanted to make a high school movie and that they were inspired by teenage high school films and that is very clear. This movie does take a lot of time to show Peter in school and some may have a problem with that because this is a superhero movie, but I enjoyed that part and there is a good balance of him in school and being Spider-Man. Tom Holland is great at playing both parts. The villain of the movie is the Vulture and I always thought he was a lame villain in the comics, but Michael Keaton did a great job. His character had a lot to him that I was not expecting. He is also very intimidating. All the cast is great Marisa Tomei plays a younger Aunt May than we've seen before. Peter's friend Ned from the trailers I thought he was going to be extremely annoying, but it turns out that he is a really likable character and has some of the funniest lines in the movie. Zendaya plays another of Peter's friends Michelle she isn't in the film that much, but every time she is hilarious. Robert Downey Jr. is always entertaining in these movies, but the trailers made it seem like Iron Man was the main character and Spider-Man was the side character that is not the case.    The action is well filmed, very intense and it did feel like Peter Parker was in danger. On the way back from seeing this movie I was trying to think of flaws and honestly, I don't have one. This movie is a ton of fun from start to finish there is awesome action, it has an engaging story, it's funny, it has characters that you care about and it is never boring.    5 out of 5 stars for Spider-Man: Homecoming. I hope you enjoyed my review and I hope it helped you decide whether to see the movie or not.
