RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES MOVIE REVIEW

Rise of the Planet of the Apes is directed by Rupert Wyatt and stars James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton and Andy Serkis. The plot of the movie is a substance designed to help the brain repair itself gives rise to a super-intelligent chimpanzee who leads an uprising.    The original Planet of the Apes I thinks is one of the greatest science-fiction films ever made. Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes is awful it is one of the worst remakes ever. When this film came out in 2011 I had no interest Tim Burton's remake left such a bad taste in my mouth that I didn't care to see another Planet of the Apes movie.    Rise of the Planet of the Apes turned out to be one of the biggest surprises of 2011. It reminds me of Ridley Scott's Alien in a sense that it moves at a very quiet pace, there aren't giant action scenes every 20 minutes, it really focuses on the characters, tells an honest and simple story and it has great pay off in the end. All the actors do a good job and the characters are very believable. There are no clear villains. The closest we ever get to a villain is the teenager at the ape sanctuary who's played by Tom Felton AKA Draco Malfoy and it felt like he was just playing the American version of that character.    The real stand out in this movie is Caesar who is not a simple CG ape but is played by Andy Serkis the same guy who has done Gollum and King Kong.  He really does bring some human emotion to Caesar and he is long overdue for an OSCAR, but unfortunately, the academy does not consider motion capture performances as actual acting.    Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a fantastic reboot unlike the Tim Burton remake this manages to capture the spirit of the original Planet of the Apes, but also be fresh and new at the same time. 5 out of 5 stars for Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I hope you enjoyed my review and I hope it helped you decide whether to see the movie or not.
