ALIEN 3 MOVIE REVIEW

Alien 3 is directed by David Fincher and stars Sigourney Weaver, Charles Dance, Charles S. Dutton and Lance Henrikson. The plot of the movie is after her last encounter, Ripley crash-lands on Fiorina Fury 161, a maximum security prison. When a series of strange and deadly events occur shortly after her arrival, Ripley realizes that she brought along an unwelcome visitor.    Alien 3 was a movie that I have always heard was terrible so I was not looking forward to watching it. This movie is dreadful and doesn't really need to exist. Aliens ended in a why were you think there can never be a sequel. So the only way Alien 3 could exist is if they basically cheat a bit. So they decided to have a facehugger appear throughout the ship that Ripley was in at the end of the last movie. Which begs the question did the Alien Queen lay one last egg on the ship before she fought Ripley and got sucked into space. If you recall in Aliens Ripley destroyed the long tube that the Queen uses to lay the eggs.    So the opening of the movie and how they cheat to make this movie is frustrating. It's an opening that is so insulting and so anger inducing that it is hard to continue watching.  I will say though the rest of the movie and this is not really a compliment is not anger-inducing it just ranges from bad to stupid to depressing. The movie is so dark it's hard to find any enjoyment in it. I do get the tone that they were trying to go with it's trying to be different from the first two movies. I commend them for wanting to do that, but goddamn this is a science fiction movie you gotta have some element of fun in the movie.    There is only one alien in the movie this time so they are trying in that aspect to make it a lot like the first movie where it's supposed to be a horror movie as well as a depressing as shit drama, but during the opening credits we see the facehugger crawling through the ship and after Ripley regains consciousness the movie plays out as if your supposed to guess if another alien is on board. There is no suspense since we have already seen the alien crawling around the ship. To top it all off you don't give a shit about any of the other characters so there is no suspense when it comes to who is going to die or not.    The only two people that I did care about a little were Ripley Sigourney Weaver still does a really fantastic job in the role this is a shitty movie, but she still manages to bring her A-game. The other character that I liked was one of the prisoners that she becomes friends with. He and Ripley do have some good chemistry too bad he gets killed once the alien starts going loose.  This movie was nominated for Best Visual Effects that is a fucking joke. The aliens in the first two movies were horrifying this looks like it was made on a computer by a child. The other visual effects are garbage as well      The studio clearly had no idea what they were doing with this movie. Unlike Alien and Aliens where those were directors projects, Alien 3 was a product of the studio. Alien 3 and the next film Alien: Resurrection are famous for Fox interfering with every decision that went into it. When David Fincher was hired he didn't have a lot of time to prepare and apparently they didn't even have a finished script when they were filming.    Fox later put out a longer version of the film which is, unfortunately, the only version I could find and that version has so many pacing problems probably even more than the original version.    1 out of 5 stars for Alien 3. I hope you enjoyed my review and I hope it helped you decide whether to see the movie or not.
